I have a 16 gig sd card which I'd like to format for my mp3 player. However, when I put it in my sd card reader, my computer won't even acknowledge it. If anyone is aware of how to get around that so that I can format it I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thanks.

Is this an external or internal card reader?
Do you hear the ms connectivity sound when you slide in the sd?
Can you see the sd through the manage.msc?
If not, then your os might simply be trying to assign a letter that has already been used for another drive.

That and what is the largest size SD card you had in there before the 16GB card.. could just be that your card reader can't read the SDHC format as well.

Multiples Vada, lol. Try connecting the MP3 player itself to the computer. Some devices, the Zoom H2 recorder to name just one, is itself a card reader when it's connected to the computer. I'd probably use that if this laptop's integral card reader wasn't working.
